Subject
Description
Letters sent from Lincoln Junior College in Ft. Pierce to Robert Lewis Taylor and his parents after his high school graduation from Stuart Training School in 1960. Lincoln Junior College was founded in 1960. It was one of eleven community colleges founded in support of the “separate but equal” education policy advocated for by the Florida state legislature. The state legislature decided against school integration following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. Lincoln Junior College merged with Indian River Junior College (Indian River State College today) around 1965.
