Description
Albert Rudolph Krueger and party returning from a sailboat trip. Handwritten note on back of photo reads "A. R. Krueger and party 1890--Returning from 'Provin' up' trip to Titusville. Required 2 witnesses to testify they had lived on property 1 yr." German immigrant, A. R. Krueger, nicknamed "Dude" by locals because of his affinity for more urban clothes, such as derby hats and fancy ties, arrived in the Stuart area in 1886. He became a pineapple farmer, purchasing 80 acres of land, building Burn Brae Plantation (on the National Register of Historic Places) and dredging the creek (later named Krueger Creek) around his property to make it navigable to the St. Lucie River.
