Title
Train on the Seven Mile Bridge, c. 1970
Description
Train traverses the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys. Caption: "During 1908 Flagler's engineers built 'the great one,' the most costly link in the 'Overseas Railroad.' Although called the 'Seven Mile Bridge,' it was nine miles long including approaches. A 253-foot swinging span allowed ships to pass from the Gulf to the Atlantic. Before it was complete, the bridge was wracked by the 125 mph hurricane of 1909 and had to be extensively rebuilt.
