Item
Title
Racey home, 1915
Description
Charles Racey built this three story wood frame house and started a pineapple and citrus plantation in 1891. The house was built on a 4,000 year old Indian shell mound created by the Ais Indians and named "Mount Elizabeth." The land was purchased by his father, William Henry Racey, in the late 1850s. The house burned down in 1921 and the property was sold to a New York judge. The Tuckahoe mansion was later built on the site. Photo originally published in the booklet "Resources of St. Lucie County," published by the St. Lucie Tribune, 1915.
