Ocean View, c. 1908

Item

Title

Ocean View, c. 1908

Description

Several photos of Ocean View, with Mabelle and Duke Merwin on swing in one. The estate was purchased by William Merritt Merwin in 1887 from Thomas E. Richards; later it was occupied by his son Albert Dumond "Bert" Merwin (1875-1942) and his wife Mabelle Hammond Merwin (1875-1943) and later his son Albert Dumond "Duke" Merwin (1904-1991). Originally named Ocean View, it began to be regularly referred to as Edenlawn in 1930, when the Merwins created a new fernery, an expansion of their nursery business.
