Description

View of white house surrounded by trees. Handwritten on back: "Ocean View Plantation, Edenlawn; taken from Harvey's house" Harvey and Frances Merwin built a small house near his brother's in 1913. The estate was purchased by William Merritt Merwin in 1887 from Thomas E. Richards. Originally named Ocean View, it began to be regularly referred to as Edenlawn in 1930, when the Merwins created a new fernery, an expansion of their nursery business.
