Description
Field of calla lilies. Catherine and George Backus built the Backus Plantation in 1911 on the South Fork. Catherine was a prominent sculptor in Minnesota. While she doesn't appear to have continued her art, she is credited with establishing one of the first commercial flower farms and the first to use artificial lights to control flower development.
