Description

Karl Herman Bentel (1877-1921) in apron stands in front of Bentel Bakery. Germany born Bentel moved to Stuart in about 1906, opened the town's first bakery, and built this building by 1907. He served as county commissioner when Stuart was still in Palm Beach County. Signs for products include Headley Chocolate Box and Eddy's Laundry Starch, and Clover Hill Butter. Published in the Stuart News, 25th Historical Edition (9 Nov 1950).
