Description
Men in a pineapple field. Published in Sandra Thurlow's book, Stuart on the St. Lucie (p. 14), with the caption: "After the untimely death of homesteader August Hars in 1887, his brother Heinrich of Hamburg, Germany, came to Florida to settle his affairs and for a time tried pioneering on the St. Lucie River. In this photograph, Heinrich stands in his pineapple field between A.R. Krueger, at left, and Morris Johns, at right. In 1902 he sold to Mary and Harry Richards but contracted a fatal illness on his way back to Germany." Low quality print.
