Published in the Stuart News (16 Nov 1944) with the caption: "Caldwell dedicates new inlet channel in exercises Sunday. United States Senator Claude E. Pepper, shaking hands with Mayor Phil Pence, congratulated Stuart and Martin County public officials here recently on their plans to dedicate the new channel at St. Lucie Inlet to the Naval Amphibious Training forces which blasted it out of the coral reef. Left to right: "Pence, City Commissioner H.H. Hipson, R.L. (Dad) Wall, County Commissioner, Palm City, Pepper, Commodore Stanley Kitching, Inland Navigation District Commissioner, County Commissioner Arthur Sims, Hobe Sound, and County Commissioner O.D. Quinlivan, Stuart and Salerno."
