Stuart aerial, 1950

Item

Title

Stuart aerial, 1950

Description

Photograph published in Stuart On the St. Lucie - A Pictorial History by Sandra Thurlow (p. 148) with the caption: "This November 10, 1950 aerial shows the greater Stuart peninsula with Fernhill Cemetery and Poppleton Creek in the foreground. The citrus grove once owned by Seminole Indian H. M. Harjo can be seen between Palm City Road and Kanner Highway. The intersection of Colorado Avenue and U.S. 1 is essentially vacant except for a private residence on the southeast corner and Bruce and Harry's Shell service station and restaurant on the corner where First National Bank and Trust Company stands today. Frazier Creek can be seen as it goes beneath Colorado Avenue."
