Title
Sunrise Inn landing, c. 1914
Description
Unloading people from a boat at Sunrise Inn dock. Published in the Stuart News, 25th Historical Edition (9 Nov 1950) with the caption "Everyone joined in beach picnics. This picture will bring back happy memories for the adults who recall the early-day picnics on Jensen Beach. They were all-day affairs and planned weeks in advance. All available boats were assembled for the only means of transportation and each one was loaded to capacity with kids and parents and tubs and baskets of food. After a 5-mile trip by water the picnic group landed at the Indian River dock which was about half-way between the present Coast Guard Station and the inlet. A builtup board walk across the mangrove swamp led to a fine beach pavilion, about 40 by 40 ft., with hipped, shingled roof and a wooden floor surrounded on three sides by seats and rails. Dressing rooms filled the north side."
