Description

The A & P Super Market at 355 East 4th Street (East Ocean Boulevard) in Stuart, located in the former Browning Building. Originally built by George H. Browning as a Ford Dealership in 1926, the building housed several other automobile dealerships, including the Stuart Motor Co., Hayes-Leonard (also called Dewey Hayes) Motor Co. and the Web Ordway Motors.

The A & P Super Market opened in the Browning Building in November 1945. The supermarket moved to Mayfair Plaza in 1962 and starting in the early 1960s, the Browning Building began serving as office space and storage for the Martin County Courthouse and other municipal divisions, eventually becoming the Martin County Courthouse Annex. After the new county courthouse was built, the Browning Building was demolished in 1989 and replaced with a park.
