Description

Cabin, cars, and trailers at the Pitchford Auto Camp in Jensen Beach. After Dixie Highway was completed in 1915, offering a route from Montreal to Miami, tourism increased dramatically. Pitchford Camp, established by Joseph J. Pitchford in the early 1920s on Dixie Highway, and later expanded by his sons, offered by 1932 twenty-five cabins, tent and trailer space, a bath house, laundry facilities, milk delivery, and boat rental, all for $1 a night for a cabin and 25 cents for tents.
