Description
Aerial view of Peck's Lake inlet. Peck's Lake is adjacent to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge and north of Jupiter Island. In 1963, an inlet was opened into Peck's Lake by storms, then closed as an erosion hazard. Published in the Miami Herald (7 March 1964) with the caption "For the birds… Two-hundred-and-ten acres of virgin Jupiter Island stretching south along a mile of beachfront from the crooked creek in the foreground to the sandy neck that was once the Peck's Lake Inlet has been given to the Florida Audubon Society for a bird and wildlife sanctuary by the Hobe Sound Company."
