Description

Crowd gathered with hands on their hearts to watch United States flag being raised or lowered. Similar photo published in the Stuart News (24 Feb 1955) with the caption: "Exalted Ruler R.G. Hupfel of the Stuart-Jensen Elks Lodge 1870 pulls the lanyard to raise an American flag while R.J. Twyman keeps the banner off the ground at a ceremony at the lodge's future home site on the Indiantown road here Tuesday noon. This particular flag flew over the U.S. Capitol on Lincoln's birthday anniversary Feb. 12."
