American Legion honors students with cake, 1954

Description

These six students were chosen to represent Martin County at state sessions in Tallahassee. The students hold up a cake made in their honor. The cake reads "Welcome Boy and Girl State." According to the Stuart News (30 Sep 1954), the cake was presented to the students during an American Legion meeting held at Legion Hall and several of the students gave reports about the state session. The students chosen to represent Martin County were named in the Stuart News (03 June, 1954) as Vernon Chason, Jr., David Burkey, Carolyn Murphy, Denver Andrews, Patricia Berry and Lee Brock. Martin County High School principal, John Gray stands on the left.
