Item

Title

Stuart bus stop, c. 1950

Description

Stuart's Greyhound bus station, located at Chisholm's Grill on US 1 south. Sinclair and Amco service stations in view nearby. Anna and William Chisholm first opened Chisholm's Grill in 1927 and it became a widely popular establishment for travelers and locals alike, especially due to its location, next to the highway and its secondary use as a bus terminal. Anna Chisholm became the official Greyhound bus ticket agent for the area.

In 1954, Charles and Mary MacArthur took over management of the restaurant for a brief time. Then in 1955, John D. Meadows took over the restaurant and renamed in Meadows Restaurant and later it became Kelly's Restaurant. In 1957, it became Pace's Restaurant under Clyde and Lou Pace. The building was eventually demolished after US 1 was widened into four lanes during the 1960s.
