The Stuart Hotel, c. 1955

Description

Hotel and restaurant. Originally built around 1891 by Broster Kitching (and then moved by 1898) and added onto extensively over the years. Harold Hinkle (1905-1969) purchased The Stuart Hotel in 1951 and began a remodel of the building. Hinkle celebrated the grand opening of a coffee shop restaurant at the hotel in February of 1953 and this photograph taken by Arthur Ruhnke was published in the Stuart News (05 Feb 1953). Hinkle operated the hotel and restaurant until selling it in 1966 and the building were subsequently demolished.
