John Mann's no trespassing sign, 1965
Item
Title
John Mann's no trespassing sign, 1965
Description
John Mann (Stuart Fire Chief 1942-1956) commissioned a sign reading "This Land Is Posted Against Any County Attorney Engineer Photographer Setting Foot On These Premises Without Permission of Owner John N. Mann." The accompanying Stuart News clipping (24 June 1965) details that Mann and C. R. Ramey, a tenant on property owned by Mann in Palm City, were charged with a zoning violation for storing old cars and other "junk" at the property. In response to the charges, Mann and Ramey claimed they were being harassed. Ultimately, the charges against Mann and Ramey were dropped in May of 1966.
