Welcome sign for Stuart, Sailfish Capitol, 1954

Installed in 1954 by the Stuart Chamber of Commerce, this sign states "This is Stuart, Sailfish Capitol of the World. Free book on Florida fishing, Chamber of Commerce 6 blocks ahead." Stuart News editor Edwin Menninger immediately expounded that "Capitol" should be "Capital" and it was soon corrected.
