Item

Title

The TV Motel, 1963

Description

The TV Motel, located on US 1 South (Federal Hwy) and Monterey Rd. in Stuart. Dianne Lininger was a young girl when her father, William J. Lininger started the business in the early 1950s. According to an "I remember When" column published in TC Palm (17 Jan 2009), Dianne recalls that "We named our place the TV Motel because we put television sets in all the rooms, a rarity in those days. It didn't matter that they were small black-and-white screens and only two channels came in clearly. It was still awesome high technology and gave us an enviable edge over our competitors, at least for a while." Bill Lininger sold the motel to Ernest and Margaret Goldner in 1958. In 1981, the buildings were donated to Charles F. Chapman School of Seamanship for use as a dormitory.
