Title
Kenneth Wright's fish farm, 1952
Description
Spawning tanks for the Kenneth Wright fish farm. House and mobile home in view in the background. Originally in the traveling circus business, Kenneth and Grace Wright settled in Stuart in the 1940s. They owned a photography shop on Osceola Ave for four years until it was sold to Arthur Ruhnke in 1948. The Wrights then purchased 10 acres of property on Casa Ave off South US 1 to start a tropical fish business. The business expanded to a one hundred acre property between Cove & Salerno Roads in the 1950s. Eventually, they became one of the largest tropical fish dealers in the world. The Wrights also sold rare birds, aquarium equipment and flowering plants. Published in the Stuart News (12 Jun 1952) with caption Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth M. Wright and son, Von, inspect one of the many concrete block fish spawning pools on their tropical fish and bird farm in South Stuart."
