Description

Photograph published in the Stuart News (8 Oct 1964) with caption "Cutting the ribbon to open U. S. 1 through Stuart are Mrs. John H. Monahan and her daughter, Suzen, to the obvious pleasure of Monahan, District 4 Road Board member, and Governor Bryant." The ceremony marked the completion of a decades long expansion of Hwy US 1 into four lanes and a new span of Roosevelt Bridge, a project that first began in 1945 and followed previously competed expansions of US 1 through Palm Beach, Broward, Dade and Duval counties.
