Description

Joseph Verner Reed (1902-1973) and wife Permelia P. Reed (1906-1994) with four young men and a dog. Joseph Verner Reed founded the Hobe Sound Company, which developed Jupiter Island and the Jupiter Island Club. Reed and his wife, Permelia, are celebrated for their conservation efforts, having donated the north end of Jupiter Island as a nature preserve. Reed was also one of the founders of Martin County Hospital.
