Description

Office staff at the Martin County clerk office. Phoebe Cleveland (third from right) assisted county clerk, J. R. Pomeroy, for many years and served as acting clerk of court following Pomeroy's death in 1949. In the 1950 election for clerk of court, Dorothy Pierce (third from left) ran as a write-in candidate and won in a landslide against Cleveland. Pierce went on to serve as the clerk of court through 1972.
