Item

Title

Dog on sidewalk, 1958

Subject

Description

Dog with a corncob pipe in his mouth stands in front of a store window. Image included with a series of photographs taken at the Future Farmers of America awards banquet held in May of 1958.

This dog has a write up in the Stuart News (22 May 1958) with a similar photograph taken by Ernie Lyons, editor of the paper. Caption included with the photo reads "Pipe-Toter. 'The girls just love a boy who smokes a corn cob pipe,' says Don, 1 1/2-year-old pet of Freeman Ayars at Kirk's Service Station on U. S. 1. Nobody knew what sort of dog he was, so don decided to be a trick dog. He turns flips, catches mullet in the river, and six weeks ago started using a pipe. He hasn't tried any tobacco in it yet."
