According to Ernest Lyons in one of his Stuart News columns (3 Dec 1959): "Martin County's woods buggies range from cut down Model A's to converted trucks. All have two things in common: the ability to plow through water up to the floor boards without getting drowned out and oversized tires which will carry them down much pond edges and over palmetto roots. The really ornate and elaborate ones are a cabinet-maker's dream, with cupboards and compartments to hold everything from salt and pepper shakers to a spot of snake-bite remedy, have bunks, grocery, drug and medical supply sections, plus a cage for the bird dogs or hounds."</text>
