  • Published in the New York Herald (6 May 1894), page 15 and the Times Union (19 May 1894), page 20 notes the refusal of the US government to grant a post office named "The White City" to the residents of White City, Florida. It details the reasons behind the naming of the city: 1. Louis Pio, the main promoter of the colony, worked there, and 2. the plan was to exclude African Americans from living or working in the community.
