Miss Mary McDonald photoalbum, 1911-1918
This photoalbum was created by Mary Elizabeth McDonald and features photos from between 1911 and 1918 when Mary was a student at Stuart High School in Stuart, Florida. It includes photographs of activities with friends, including Thelma Mae French, Loris Eurit, Derral Smith, Merle Smith, Florence Dyer, Myrtle Dyer, Harry Dyer, Leeson Arthur Hogarth, Verda Roebuck, Edna Roebuck, Merle Speakman, Shelby McCully, and Meta Hardy; many are taken on beaches and at picnics. Family is also significantly represented, especially her brother Jackson Henson McDonald Jr. (1900-1939), baby Celia Kitching Taylor (1915-1969), and mother Sarah Josephine Kitching Taylor (1895-1987). Pets, including cats, dogs and a baby Sandhill Crane are included.
The album also includes images of the 1916 flag raising at school house, the "necessity shop," a 14-ft sawfish, airplanes, her brother's boy scout troop, Sunday School class, and views of Stuart. A series of photos shows her family home and business which burnt down on 1 January 1916, and includes some images of the aftermath of that fire. Photos from 1917-1918 includes many photos of young men in military uniforms including U.S. Naval Reserve Force.
