Published in the Stuart News (24 Nov 1949) with the caption: "The Rev. George P. Huntington and Sam H. Austin watch closely while Senior Warden D.S. Hudson and Builder Robert Hodapp lower the cornerstone into place at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church now under construction… The laying climaxed a ceremony at the church… Watching at right is crucifer Henry Austin."
Interior of Rue's Sweet Shop on Flagler Avenue, Stuart, which sold candy, cigarettes, cigars, homemade root beer, magazines, ice cream, and soft drinks.
A shop employee and Henry Clay Rue (1861-1937) stand in a small shop with cases, counters, and displays of candy; a man reads at a table; a sign advertises "Ice Cream Dixies" for 5 cents.
Henry and Harriet Rue and their adult sons Charles and Fred relocated from Michigan to Stuart in 1924. They purchased the Butter Kist Shoppe on Flagler Avenue, next door to the Feroe Building, and renamed it Rue's Sweet Shop, which continued operating until 1944. The building was demolished in the 1980s and in 2024 it is a gated courtyard garden.
