He worked as manager or salesman for several businesses through the years including Texaco, Pontiac, Firestone, Luckhardt Construction, and the Stuart News. He was also an experienced carpenter, and designed and constructed a watchtower at Hobe Sound beach during WWII. He also served on the Martin County School Board in the 1930s.</text>

                  <text>Henry and Harriet Rue and their adult sons Charles and Fred relocated from Michigan to Stuart in 1924. They purchased the Butter Kist Shoppe on Flagler Avenue, next door to the Feroe Building, and renamed it Rue's Sweet Shop, which continued operating until 1944. The building was demolished in the 1980s and in 2024 it is a gated courtyard garden.&#13;
&#13;
Their sons, Frederick E. Rue (1899-1967) and Charles Henry Rue (1897-1968) settled in Stuart. Charles' daughter Lois Evelyn Root Rue (1898-1981) and her husband Roy Ernest Luckhardt (1921-1984) are significantly represented in the collection.</text>
