Jensen Beach sixth graders were given airplane rides on 15 Dec 1962 through the efforts of their principal, Ernest Varvil. Ernest "Ernie" Varvil (1925-2007) worked in the Martin County School System as a teacher, principal, and personnel director; he was also a pilot and an author. -

Nat Reed, 1977
Nathaniel Pryor Reed (1934-2018) of Hobe Sound, and family. Reed served in many federal and state positions associated with the environment and conservation over his career, including the Chairman of the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Commission. He also made significant contributions to private environmental organizations, including helping to found the Everglades Foundation and 1000 Friends of Florida, and serving on the boards of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, National Geographic Society, and Everglades Foundation.
