Charles A. "Bill" Porter (1910-1963) established the Hurricane Boat Company in 1945 at his home (the Owl House), which produced the first plywood molded boat hulls in Florida. After closing the business in 1948, he opened the Porter Lumber Company in Jensen Beach in 1950.
