Swarthout (15 Dec 1949), the quintet seen here participated in a make-shift ribbon cutting ceremony as follows "...[they] lifted aside the tied Calcutta fishing poles which had been supplied as a barrier to the entrance of the bridge in lieu of the customary ribbon, and the group split up into the five official cars and started across the bridge, paced by Mrs. (Laura) Christian (Bridge tender) and (Harry) Blotner (assistant tender) on their motor scooter."&#13;
