Stuart Middle School gymnasium, 1973
The former Stuart High School gymnasium, photographed shortly before its demolition in 1973. Measuring 70 feet wide by 100 feet long, the gym seated approximately 400 spectators and was considered well lit for its time when it opened in August 1934. In addition to school athletics, the building served as a venue for community events. By 1958, frequent complaints arose regarding inadequate seating, limited dressing rooms, and the gym’s ongoing need for repairs.
