Dr. Richard Penick (1929-2012) moved to Jensen Beach, Florida, in 1956 and opened his practice in the old Ricou Building on Commercial Street. Recognized as the community’s first physician, he served Jensen Beach for 30 years as a dedicated family doctor. During his career, he established the area’s first ambulance service, led Florida’s first successful polio vaccination program, and contributed his time to numerous local nonprofit boards. Renowned for his clear, beautiful tenor voice, Dr. Penick frequently sang or performed in community variety shows and often took the stage as an emcee. An avid sports enthusiast, he remained active throughout his life and even competed in the Senior Olympics in his later years.
