The grand opening at Tommy's Bar was held in December 1948. The building, located a half mile south of the Martin County Line on US 1, was constructed by John L. Taylor for owner, Tommy Savas, formerly the manager at the Blue Goose Inn and St. Lucie Bar. Three apartments and a roof top garden were built on the second floor while the first floor included the dining room with a semi-circular bar, kitchen and space for a liquor store.</text>
