Built in 1908 as the Stuart School, the building was then used as the Martin County Courthouse between 1925 and 1937, at which time the building was remodeled and an addition was made to the front of the building using WPA funds. In 1997, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places; in 2024, it is the Court House Cultural Center & Gallery.
