  • Published in the Stuart News (16 Feb 1956) with caption reading "Work Progresses Steadily On Stuart Sewage Plant. J. H. Pomeroy, construction foreman, inspects the concrete base of the giant new basin where raw sewage will be collected before being mechanically treated and purified. This base if 17 ft. below sea level. A complicated system of wells rings the excavation and pumps run continuously to keep the hole dry while construction goes on. Ground water is only 3 ft. below sea level in this area."
