Cadets and officers in uniform and lined up in front of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) hangar at Witham Field. According to the Stuart News (18 Feb 1954), the CAP, which serves an auxiliary for the U.S. Air Force, established a headquarters with four squadrons at Witham Airfield around 1954. The CAP was created to "combine the talents and practice of senior personnel as pilots for search and rescue; as support for the Eastern Air Rescue and Recovery Service of the Air Force; and to provide instruction personnel to teach the cadets a very vital program in Aero Space Education and Military discipline."
