The 'C.W.A. stands for Communications Workers of America, a CIO affiliate. The pickets are (left to right) Jim Murray, Carol Mann, an unidentified worker from West Palm Beach and Mrs. Al Keaton." -

Civil Rights protest march in front of Stuart City Hall on Flagler Avenue in June of 1965 with many marchers carrying signs. A photographer can be seen in the foreground and Rexall Drugs is visible in the background. The City Hall Building, which also housed the city fire and police departments was the fifth structure used as city hall in 1955. The building was previously the Stuart Department Store owned by Stanley Kitching. The building remained as City Hall until 1974 when it was torn down and made into a parking lot for the current City Hall.
